Set along an unspoiled cove on the Kenai Peninsula, this wilderness retreat, welcoming a maximum of 12 guests per week, is reached via boat from the fishing village of Homer. Owned by knowledgeable naturalists Michael and Diane McBride, the central lodge contains a lounge with a fireplace, an open kitchen and a countrified dining room specializing in seafood dishes. Five cozy guest cabins come with homemade quilts, wood stoves, original artwork and tile-cedar shower-baths. Activities offered focus on guided hikes, sea kayaking and boat cruises, but private fishing charters can be arranged. There is also an on-site sauna and hot tub. This is a timeless haven for those seeking an authentic taste of the Alaskan wilderness. The lodge is closed from September to the end of May.
The most private accommodation, the Cliff House, is accessed via a wooden footbridge.
