Two hours southwest of Washington, D.C., this stylish country house resort stands amid picturesque rolling hills near Charlottesville. The 600-acre estate is centered on a golf course dotted with ponds and woodlands and private fairway homes. An imposing Tuscan-style villa contains 48 rooms, with the preferred Deluxe Balcony Rooms offering more-spacious sitting areas (particularly those that open onto balconies overlooking the golf course). Log fires warm the antiques-furnished Great Hall and several richly decorated lounges. The formal candlelit dining room (with a summer terrace) affords pastoral views. Amenities include seven tennis courts, an 80-foot infinity pool and a kids’ program.
