Set amid colorful landscaped grounds with an adjacent 27-acre horticultural garden, this beautifully restored 1897 hilltop manor house inn overlooks the historic seaside resort town of St. Andrews and is not far from the Maine border. The 14 elegantly decorated, period-style rooms feature four-poster draped canopy beds, original artwork, lavish marble baths and fireplaces. Suites are augmented by living areas and scenic decks, with Pinnacle having his-and-her baths with 6-foot whirlpool tubs and sensational garden and sea views from a top-floor balcony. Note that all rooms lack phones. Oriental carpets, crystal chandeliers, a baby grand piano, twin marble fireplaces, antiques and an eclectic collection of objets d’art accent the inviting parlor and paneled library. Though the hotel serves only breakfast, many fine restaurants are nearby. Whale-watching and kayaking excursions and golfing can be arranged. The resort is open only from May to October.
