Delightful nine-room hotel in an elegantly restored set of 17th-century stone houses ideally located in Uzès, 25 miles west of Avignon. A magnificent Renaissance stone staircase centerpieces the interior. Historic charm comes from honey-colored stone walls, huge overhead beams and tomette (terra-cotta tile) floors, and character comes from a refined décor successfully combining contemporary furniture and local antiques. One high-ceilinged, ivory-and-pale-yellow room on the third floor had a sitting area with upholstered armchairs before a handsome old fireplace; the large bath featured an oversize claw-foot tub and a separate shower. Chef Christophe Ducros’ indoor-outdoor one-star restaurant serves outstanding seasonally inspired cuisine; a small spa and hammam occupy the vaulted cellars. Wine tasting and golf nearby.
