Set into a scenic hillside, this classic lakefront hotel affords lovely views of Whiteface Mountain. The well-designed Adirondack interior has wood floors, regional twig furniture and Hudson River School paintings. Five rooms and six suites occupy the main lodge and an adjoining building, and nearby are 17 lakeside cabins and two cottages. A typical cabin features beamed ceilings and picture windows with views of Lake Placid. Dining options include the intimate Artisans for seasonal New American cuisine and the more casual Maggie’s Pub. Cross-country and downhill skiing, dog sledding, ice fishing and snowshoeing are offered in winter, and kayaking, horseback riding and fishing are available during the summer months. This is a family-friendly property, but children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Main Lodge.
