Built in 1669, this refined William III brick mansion set amid 20 acres of landscaped gardens overlooking York racecourse is two miles south of York’s city center. The 29 decorator-designed lodgings (no A/C) are divided between the main house and an 18th-century stable courtyard. All accommodations have high ceilings and luxurious Edwardian-style baths and are furnished with antiques and fine art. Common areas encompass elegant Queen Anne-period salons and a formal restaurant with oak-paneled dining rooms that overlook manicured lawns and parkland. The health spa, hidden in an enclosed garden, has an indoor blue mosaic-tiled pool. The hotel does not permit children under the age of 6.
