Built in 1669, this refined William III brick mansion set amid 20 acres of landscaped gardens overlooking York racecourse is two miles south of York’s city center. The 29 decorator-designed lodgings (no A/C) are divided between the main house and an 18th-century stable courtyard. All accommodations have high ceilings and luxurious Edwardian-style baths and are furnished with antiques and fine art. Even though it is only two-and-a-half miles from the center of York, the taxi ride can take 20 minutes owing to the traffic.
The highlight of York’s horse racing season is the Ebor Festival, held annually in August.
