This sophisticated 81-room hotel, spanning more than three blocks in a series of structures in Highlands, is located in a small town close to the point where North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia converge. Originally built in the 1870s as a boardinghouse, the main manor, with a brick-and-stone façade, encompasses the first-rate restaurant Madison’s, the Historic Inn rooms and suites, and an atmospheric cocktail lounge that offers live music on weekends. The adults-only Spa Suites featuring a more contemporary design, fireplaces and balconies or patios are recommended. The Hickory Cottage complex has a large pool set beside a well-equipped fitness center offering an extended schedule of wellness classes. Other amenities include a Tom Jackson-designed golf club and a comprehensive spa.
