This luxurious 20-room hotel is located within an 18th-century palace overlooking Matera’s Duomo. Many of the traditionally styled rooms feature frescoed ceilings and limestone floors. One suite also includes a private outdoor plunge pool. We recommend requesting a room with spectacular views over the Sasso Caveoso neighborhood, a settlement of houses built one on top of the other. The main restaurant, Le Bubbole, serves delicious seasonal cuisine; reservations are required. The local cheeses and charcuterie at breakfast are not to be missed. A spa set in the vaulted 14th-century stone cellars is divided between wet and dry zones. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi and a “floating pool” built into one of the original cisterns.
