This historic 156-room hotel is well-located in the main downtown area. The double-height lobby retains rich period details such as elaborate gilt moldings, wood paneling and a fireplace, but residential-style rooms are contemporary (and lack water views). Attractive and spacious Junior Suites include dining tables, sitting rooms and brown-marble baths with striking white freestanding tubs and rainfall showers. Both the Lord Stanley Suite and the Rosewood Suite have private rooftop terraces with plunge pools and gardens. Avoid rooms on the fourth and fifth floors, which may face the Reflections: The Garden Terrace patio restaurant and lack privacy. The acclaimed Hawksworth Restaurant serves modern regional cuisine. Prohibition offers light fare in a glamorous, 1920s-inspired setting, and the 1927 Lobby Lounge is a cozy place for a cocktail. Amenities include a spa with an art deco-style indoor saltwater lap pool and a gym. The staff here is friendly and urbane. The property can also arrange seasonal activities such as kayaking, skiing and snowboarding and trips two hours north to Whistler.
