This charming family-owned hotel built in the 1800s is ideally situated in the most atmospheric section of the French Quarter. The 30 lodgings are housed within several 19th-century Creole-style dwellings with fanciful wrought-iron spiral staircases that open onto a leafy courtyard. Rooms come with ornate plasterwork, ornamental fireplaces and an impressive mix of English, French and Louisiana antiques that are rotated on a regular basis by the owners. Rooms vary in style and design, and some of the older lodgings feature wall-to-wall carpeting. While Deluxe Rooms face the lovely courtyard and have appealing period touches, they tend to be snug and lack privacy. I recommend booking one of the Grand Suites, which are the most spacious and have the most character. Note that suites numbered in the 30s are located up a vertiginous staircase. Access to a nearby health club is complimentary. Children under the age of 10 are not permitted.
