Part of the Sun Valley Resort, this 108-room lodge was originally opened in 1936 as America’s first destination ski resort. Spacious, contemporary rooms include walk-in dressing areas and large granite baths. Request a Lodge Terrace or Celebrity Suite on the third or fourth floor for the best views. The open reception area overlooks an ice skating rink (open year-round) and is decorated with black-and-white celebrity photographs and ski champion memorabilia. Dining options are highlighted by the Duchin Lounge and the adjacent Gretchen’s for excellent seasonal American cuisine. Also recommended are The Ram steakhouse and the charming Austrian-inspired Konditorei café. Amenities include a circular courtyard pool, a hot tub, a fitness center with a yoga studio, a 20,000-square-foot spa, an opera house converted into a 340-seat movie theater and a bowling alley. Golf, horseback riding, fishing, tennis and world-class skiing are also available.
