This High Country sanctuary is nestled on a 5,000-foot ridge overlooking Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The 14 distinctive rooms occupy the main building, individual cabins and an adjacent annex. Some of the lodgings are outfitted with quilts, woodburning rock fireplaces and scenic decks. Exposed beams, timber planking and assorted Appalachian crafts accent the central lodge’s cathedral lounge and elegantly rustic dining room, where convivial family-style dinners are served. The Chestnut Lodge encompasses a library, a massage therapy room, a redwood sauna and a racquetball court. Other amenities include an outdoor hot tub and a broad porch offering glorious mountain views. Detailed trail maps and personalized hiking sticks are provided. The property is closed from December to May.
