Sleek 123-room resort in four interconnected buildings designed by Jean-Michel Gathy offers a postmodern, Asian-accented riff on traditional Swiss chalet architecture, a five-minute walk from the Andermatt train station. Handsome wine and cigar room; two dining options including The Restaurant for European and Asian food, and a Japanese restaurant. Comfortable bedrooms include gas fireplaces; granite baths provide heated floors, soaking tubs and walk-in showers. Deluxe Suites have wide oak-plank floors, living areas and spacious private balconies. Spa with spectacular 115-foot indoor pool and loungers in private niches; also sauna, hydrothermal baths, yoga studio, outdoor lap pool and a spacious gym.

Gas fireplaces in the very comfortable and attractive rooms; the indoor pool and spa; the convenient location in the village of Andermatt.
A service style more concerned with following rules than making guests happy; miserly room-service portions; the absence of Swiss specialties in the hotel’s expensive restaurants.
Andermatt is a great weekend ski destination from Lucerne or Zurich. The town is easily reached by train, and a car is not required, since the hotel provides transport to the ski slopes.
Grand Deluxe Room, $800; Junior Deluxe Suite, $920.
