Housed by a 15th-century Franciscan monastery commanding a glorious panoramic view of Florence, this sumptuously restored hilltop hotel is about 15 minutes by complimentary shuttle service from the city center. Its façade was designed by Michelangelo and is preserved as a National Trust monument. The 45 lodgings feature period furnishings and lavish modern baths. Junior Suites have private terraces, yellow Carrara-marble baths and comfortable seating areas. The wonderful La Loggia offers unforgettable views of the city and is ideal for cocktails and alfresco dining. There are two additional atmospheric dining rooms. The terraced gardens contain an 82-foot heated pool with an adjacent café for light meals. Amenities include a small gym, a kids’ club and a “hands-on” cooking school (the Young Chef’s Academy designed for children between the ages of 6 to 14 is available in the summer). The property is closed from November to April.
