This restored 1886 mansion hotel is located in a tranquil setting at the edge of Charleston’s historic district. The lavish interior features an array of well-preserved Victorian details, including handcarved marble fireplaces, Tiffany stained-glass windows, Morris-style wallpaper, polychrome tiled floors, oak wainscoting and high ceilings embellished with intricate plasterwork and crystal chandeliers. The 21 spacious rooms and suites feature wood floors, heavy velvet drapes and charming decorative hardware. Many lodgings also have gas fireplaces and private patios. The excellent restaurant, Circa 1886, serves classic Lowcountry dishes that employ local and seasonal ingredients. There is also a lovely spa in the mansion’s former stables, and access to a nearby athletic club is complimentary.
