Meet your Sanctuary representative upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and enjoy the scenery of northern Tanzania during your transfer to Sanctuary Swala in Tarangire National Park. Each of the secluded property’s twelve pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and ancient baobabs and is within sight of the well-frequented waterhole. In the afternoon, easily spot huge herds of elephants, greater kudu, impalas and zebras during an exciting game drive by open 4WD vehicle, while leopards lurk in the trees. As the sun fades, enjoy a sundowner as you watch the game carry on with their daily activities. Return to camp to freshen up before dinner.
Awake to the sounds of the bush as a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee is served on your tent’s deck. Spend the rest of the morning enjoying the camp’s activities at your leisure in advance of a well-deserved lunch.
Afterward, take a refreshing swim in the pool or relax on your private deck with a cool drink and watch as the game congregates in the shade to escape the midday sun, then return to the Tarangire on a late-afternoon game drive if you desire. This evening, meet around the campfire for a pre-dinner drink as you discuss the day's adventures.
Rise with the bush for an early game drive or sleep in and enjoy the beauty of the morning from your private deck. After lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to visit our community initiatives, such as the Mwika bee-keeping project on the western border of Tarangire. Try a sample of fresh honey, then take a tour of Mwika Village and chat with locals about life in this fascinating part of the world. Return to camp for a late afternoon swim before meeting for one last campfire beneath the impressive baobab trees.
Take a morning transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled 90-minute flight to the Serengeti and Sanctuary Kusini. Settle in at camp before lunch, then discover why the Serengeti is an icon of Africa on an afternoon game drive. From a Maasai word meaning "endless plains," the Serengeti spreads out as far as the eye can see, covering more than 9,000 square miles. Every year, 1.5 million wildebeest migrate from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara, followed by hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle and other plains game in search of fresh grazing pastures.
Choose to partake in a full-day game drive into the heart of the Serengeti with a picnic lunch or remain close to camp with morning and afternoon game drives. In the evening, return to camp and climb to the top of the kopje for stunning 360-degree views of the Serengeti. Relax with your preferred drink as you watch the setting sun paint the landscape with pinks, oranges and reds. Settle in at the dining tent for a deliciously prepared meal before retiring to your tent after an eventful day of game viewing.
Transfer from Kusini to Saadani National Park, Tanzania’s only coastal nature reserve. The 17 stilted suites of Sanctuary Saadani River Lodge, built for rest and relaxation on the southern shore of the Wami River, blend into the natural scenery with traditional thatched roofs, shaded by the fascinating mangrove forests that surround them. For the ultimate secluded escape, try the lodge’s Wami Suite—a private villa with its own infinity pool, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a living room and dining room. The lodge offers guests a range of activities, including game drives, river excursions and indulgent in-house spa.
Enjoy the lodge’s activities at your leisure. Today you might explore the area on a game drive, try mountain biking or venture out on a walking safari with your guide. For those looking for a more restful day, visit the beautiful spa, bird watch from the nearly four miles of raised wooden walkways or your own expansive river-view deck, and end your day with the hippos watching the sun set over the Wami River aboard the lodge’s boat.
After breakfast, a camp representative will transfer you to the airstrip for your flight back to Dar Es Salaam. Though your stay has come to an end, the immersive magic of Tanzania and East Africa will last a lifetime.
