September will see the debut of &Beyond’s Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira, set on a 100-acre estate, near the town of Pucón, in Chile’s scenic Lake District, approximately 500 miles south of Santiago. This will be the company’s first venture outside of Africa, where it operates a portfolio of superior lodges and camps. The brainchild of the Swiss financier Michael Paravicini, the property has been subtly redesigned.
The 21 guest rooms are lined with pale indigenous wood and flooded with light, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. Vira Vira is set on a working farm and boasts a modern cheese and milk dairy. Its restaurant will embrace the farm-to-table concept, with virtually all ingredients being produced on the estate. Activities include horse trekking, hiking, whitewater rafting, sailing on nearby Lake Villarrica and scenic helicopter flights. During the southern winter, the nearby mountains offer some of the best skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling in South America.
