Located in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Mombo is a remarkable safari camp, not least because of the astonishing profusion of big cats in the surrounding Moremi Game Reserve. Both the main Mombo Camp and the nearby Little Mombo Camp are currently being rebuilt after the signing of a new lease with the Botswana government and are scheduled to reopen in early 2018. In the meanwhile, those wishing to experience this extraordinary corner of Africa can stay at the temporary Mombo Trails Camp, situated a little more than a mile away, overlooking a grassy floodplain. There, eight large tents with en suite baths have been erected on raised wooden decks. I need little encouragement to revisit the Okavango, so when the new Mombo camps are complete, I will be sure to bring you a report.
