COMO Castello Del Nero: A Chianti Classic Reopens

Set on a 740-acre estate, just over 20 miles south of Florence, the Castello Del Nero has long been a favorite of Hideaway Report members. Perched on a hilltop, surrounded by the Chianti wine region, the property is housed within an imposing 12th-century castle. Last year, the hotel became part of the COMO Hotels and Resorts group — which despite its Italian-sounding name is based in Singapore — and underwent a comprehensive renovation. It reopened in March.

The 50 rooms and suites have been redecorated by noted Milanese designer Paola Navone, and while retaining their frescoed walls and ancient terra-cotta floors, they now feature a lighter, more contemporary aesthetic. The property’s three restaurants remain under the supervision of talented chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro, who employs ingredients sourced from nearby farmers, as well as those from the estate’s organic garden. COMO properties are renowned for their spas, and the Castello Del Nero now offers an encyclopedic range of massage therapies and beauty treatments employing Guinot products, as well as yoga, meditation and pilates. A relaxation area affords panoramic views across the exquisite Tuscan countryside.
