En route to Cape Leeuwin to see the point where the Indian and Pacific oceans meet, we passed through a forest of karri trees — a species of eucalyptus unique to this part of the globe. In the midst of this fragrant world, we came upon signs for the Boranup Gallery. We’re glad we decided to visit.

Artisanal furniture and landscape paintings at Boranup Gallery - Photo by Hideaway Report editorIn this unlikely location, owner James Howieson brings together works from some of Australia’s finest craftspeople. All media are represented, from whimsical metal animal sculptures frolicking in the front yard to landscape paintings to artisanal furniture, much of which Howieson designs. Bob Finn’s sea creatures, rendered in marine-grade stainless steel, particularly appealed to us, and one accompanied us home.
