Ocean House: A Floating Ecolodge in British Columbia

The Haida Gwaii archipelago, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, lies off the western coast of British Columbia. The new 12-room ecolodge Ocean House is reached after a 70-minute flight by chartered jet from Vancouver and a subsequent 20-minute helicopter ride.

Wholly owned and operated by the indigenous Haida Nation, the floating wilderness resort is surrounded by pristine red cedar and Sitka spruce forests, home to some of the world’s largest black bears. Guests may hike with local guides, sea kayak, watch sea lions and whales, fish for salmon or relax and recuperate in the lodge’s spa. A resident artists’ studio hosts Haida carvers, painters and weavers.
