Each year, I ask you to tell me about your recent trips. I am pleased to say that Hideaway Report readers remain an exceptionally well-traveled group. This year’s respondents vacation an average of 38 days a year, and over a third say they plan to travel more in the coming 12 months. Your favorite foreign destinations continue to be Italy, France and the United Kingdom, while farther afield, Australia and New Zealand are enduringly popular.
Hideaways are defined as hotels and resorts with 50 or fewer rooms.
For the purposes of this survey, hideaways are defined as hotels and resorts with 50 or fewer rooms. Amazingly, California’s Post Ranch Inn, a sanctuary set high on the cliffs of Big Sur, was voted No. 1 U.S. hideaway for the seventh year in a row. Other familiar names include the Auberge du Soleil, San Ysidro Ranch and Twin Farms. However, your favorite international hideaway, Eden Rock - St Barths, did not appear in last year’s Top 20.
Your favorite beach resort is the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii. This should be no surprise, given your consistent endorsement of Four Seasons properties worldwide. In the city hotels category, no fewer than seven of the Top 20 belong to the Toronto-based group. However, smaller, more traditional city hotels still command your affection, with The Goring in London having risen rapidly in the rankings.
I also asked you to tell me about your favorite cruise lines, and this list can be found here, along with lavish slideshows of your favorite U.S. and international hideaways and your preferred beach resorts worldwide.
