Thandwe, a beautiful city and thriving seaport on the west coast of the Rakhine State, is just a one-hour flight from Yangon. Apparently there are plans to expand the airport to allow international flights and large jets, but for now it is suitable only for turboprop aircraft. As a result, the Andaman Sea's coastline remains unspoiled and the hotels are mostly low-rise and hidden among the palms.
Located a few miles away from downtown Thandwe, Ngapali's palm-lined, white-sand beach is one of the best places to relax. This small fishing town features small shops, casual restaurants and modern village houses, and is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, boating and biking.
