This hotel is perched on a hill overlooking picturesque Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, in the scenic San Juan Islands archipelago. The 23 contemporary accommodations have a color palette of cream, yellow and charcoal and come with midcentury modern furnishings and jetted tubs. Most also offer Juliet balconies and gas fireplaces. Book only a Harbor View room or the Partial View Suite, ideally on a high floor to avoid close proximity to the restaurant patio. Avoid Partial- and Non-View rooms. The hotel’s lively restaurant serves upscale but unfussy cuisine that employs local, seasonal ingredients. A 3,000-square-foot outdoor dining space includes a new patio with two expansive decks and a lush central lawn with three fire pits. Both decks face Friday Harbor and have glass railings and heaters. Friday Harbor itself is touristy, but the hotel is well-positioned for memorable kayaking, biking and whale-watching and hiking excursions.

The proximity of our balcony to the restaurant patio.
In addition to the hotel’s restaurant, consider dining at Duck Soup, which the new owners remodeled. Note that the opening days vary based on the season, so be sure to call in advance.
