Best for a return visit to Seattle, this 29-room boutique hotel stands in the heart of the stylish and rapidly gentrifying Ballard neighborhood, about 5 miles northwest of downtown, with easy access to trendy restaurants and numerous craft brewery tasting rooms. Common areas include a chic lobby with unusual antlerlike chandeliers and an adjacent library (candelit in the evening). Most Luxury Suites have gunmetal-toned walls, gray furnishings with gold accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, Juliet balconies and striking marble baths with large freestanding tubs. The popular brasserie-like Stoneburner restaurant serves Mediterranean-inflected cuisine. Guests have access to the immense Olympic Athletic Club next door, which has two lap pools and a spa, and offers numerous fitness classes. Casual but friendly service is provided by a young, stylish staff.

The chic, edgy design; the complimentary access to the adjacent athletic club and pool; the location in the midst of Ballard Avenue NW’s independent restaurants and breweries.
The only breakfast option available before 10 a.m. was very casually delivered (i.e., in a paper bag) from a nearby café; the lack of a valet or bellman.
The hotel’s roof terrace is often closed for private events.
Lowest Rate: Standard Room, $240; Editor’s Choice: Luxury Suite, $350.
