Set on Morelia’s main square in an 18th-century mansion, this stylish 12-room hotel has been thoughtfully renovated in a contemporary design that retains many period details such as painted neoclassical friezes. Although none of the suites have a view of the square, Nos. 8 through 12 on the second floor overlook Calle Allende. All other rooms face the back courtyard with its thriving wall garden and central fountain. They include features such as beamed double-height ceilings, built-in closets, hardwood floors, leather armchairs, English tapestries and work desks. The chic La Aldaba restaurant, serving excellent international cuisine with Mediterranean and Mexican inflections, offers fine views of the Plaza de Armas. The service at this property is unfailingly professional.

Though the roof terrace has spectacular views, it has no seating or service except for private events.
Tables at the far side of the restaurant have the most-striking views.
