This unique, well-run camp is set at the edge of the Kalahari’s Makgadikgadi salt pans. An enormous canvas main tent is filled with a treasure trove of fossils, skulls, spears, books and maps. Sisal mats cover the dark wooden floor, and easy chairs come with kilim-covered cushions. Ten very comfortable guest tents share this nostalgic décor and include spacious verandas. Delicious food and a good wine selection are highlights of the experience. Public spaces include a library area and a pool set in a tented pavilion. A nearby waterhole ensures wildlife sightings. A second, dry-season camp sits immediately adjacent to the salt flats. Activities include walking safaris with the local San Bushmen. This property is recommended for those with a romantic and adventurous spirit.
