Situated near the northwest tip of Chief’s Island, this lavish enclave faces a floodplain in an area teeming with wildlife (including a large leopard population). Two newly rebuilt facilities are connected by elevated walkways: Mombo, with nine stylish guest quarters in the Mombo Concession, and Little Mombo, with three on Mombo Island. Raised on stilts, the spacious, fan-cooled tented suites have hardwood floors, heavy canvas walls and verandas. A series of thatched pavilions at Mombo Camp incorporate open-air dining and bar facilities, a well-stocked library, a gym and two plunge pools. Spa treatments and helicopter tours are available by request. Little Mombo, which is favored by families or friends traveling together because of its intimacy, also possesses its own dining area, a pool and a gym that looks out over the plains.
