This intimate, peach-colored 19th-century mansion with just 12 rooms overlooks the western shore of Lake Como in Laglio. One spacious and romantic junior suite featured pine floors, washed-stucco walls, a beamed ceiling and comfortable contemporary furniture. The well-lit bedroom offered a four-poster bed with fine Italian linens, in addition to a separate salon with sofa. The room also featured a small Juliet balcony with a table and two chairs that looked upon views of the lake and the pool in the gardens below. Amenities include a cozy restaurant, a small spa with Jacuzzi, a Turkish bath, a gym, a lakeside glass-walled infinity pool and a spacious lounge with a grand piano. This hotel is not a five-star property, but a very agreeable hotel and a good value.

The intimacy and calm here make it genuinely but unselfconsciously romantic; junior suites are exceptionally spacious.
Breakfast buffet is lackluster; suites would be better with separate tubs and showers instead of combined units.
The best nearby restaurant is the Crotto dei Platani.
Lowest Rate: Classic Room No Lake View, $200; Editor’s Choice: Lake View Suite, $430 (Breakfast Included).
