Located on a promontory overlooking Hanalei Bay, this appealing 251-room property provides a glorious setting. The imposing lobby of the former St. Regis resort has a fountain and a spectacular Murano chandelier, plus indigenous elements such as a woven raffia ceiling and palm-wood floors. One attractive Ocean View room came with a couch, a coffee table and a desk, plus plantation shutters and a green-black marble bath with a combined tub and shower. The hotel offers several dining options, including Nalu Kai for light Hawaiian-influenced cuisine and Makana Terrace for local dishes, which features seasonal dinner shows. An infinity-edge pool overlooks the bay, and two elevators lead to the beach, where one may rent surfboards, paddleboards and kayaks. Other facilities include Makai Golf Club’s Robert Trent Jones II golf course, a 10,000-square-foot spa with a dry sauna and an infused steam room, and a gym.
