Editors' Note:
The Hideaway Report’s recommended hotels are intended to be places of refuge from the world, where guests are surrounded by an atmosphere of tranquility and repose. In this context, it is our responsibility to inform members that The Beverly Hills Hotel is part of the Dorchester Collection, a group owned by the Sultan of Brunei. Despite having prominent luxury hotels in major Western cities such as Paris, London and Los Angeles, back home in his Southeast Asian nation, the Sultan has recently implemented a strict interpretation of sharia, specifically that individuals convicted of participating in gay relations can be punished by stoning to death. Due to this development, we no longer feel able to give this hotel a "recommended" rating.
Glamorous hotel dating from 1912, set amid 12 acres of tranquil gardens at the corner of North Crescent Drive and Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Meticulously maintained public areas are done in a palette of pink, apricot, yellow and green; the 208 accommodations are similarly immaculate. One comfortable Deluxe Room offered a charming balcony and spacious marble bath with a sizable soaking tub. The 23 bungalows feature kitchens and living and dining rooms; some have pianos and private garden patios. The most opulent is the four-bedroom Bungalow 5, which has a lap pool. Dining options include the eccentric Fountain Coffee Room, legendary Polo Lounge and delightful Cabana Cafe adjacent to the celebrated pool. Expansive La Prairie spa with six treatment rooms, gym and hair salon.
