Recently renovated in early 2019, this adults-only destination resort and spa (formerly owned by Travaasa) is situated within 220 acres of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve overlooking Lake Travis, 20 miles northwest of downtown Austin. The 117 guest lodgings include private decks or patios with Hill Country or property views and baths with walk-in showers. The culinary menu features seasonal organic ingredients primarily sourced from the resort’s own working farm. Though the lunch offerings are quite limited, with only two daily changing mains and a salad bar, dinner is a multicourse affair. Seats on the shaded patio are hard to come by, so opt to dine early for the best views. Adjacent to the outdoor saltwater infinity pool is a full-service 20,000-square-foot spa that has been doubled in size and features 30 treatment rooms. The relaxation room in the spa, offering magnificent bird’s-eye views of the nature preserve, comfortable cream-colored couches and warm brown blankets, is the perfect place to cozy up and read a book. The extensive activity schedule includes biking, hiking, meditation classes, yoga, archery, wine-tasting sessions and cooking demonstrations. An expanded equestrian facility has also recently completed construction. Note that the property is a digital device-free resort, and cell phones are allowed only in designated areas.
