This charming eight-room inn at the foot of the San Jacinto Mountains recaptures the casually elegant ambiance of Palm Springs in its 1930s heyday. Mahogany-beamed ceilings and natural-stone fireplaces accent individually decorated rooms. Clark Gable and Carole Lombard honeymooned in the Library Room, which holds an ornately carved antique writing desk, a fireplace and a coffered ceiling. The room’s original bath includes a reglazed vintage tub. A hearty breakfast and afternoon wine reception are offered, and though there is no on-site restaurant, room service is available from nearby Le Vallauris. The property encompasses a pool and hot tub but lacks a spa and gym. Those willing to forgo these amenities in exchange for an atmosphere of gracious tranquility will find no equal in Palm Springs.
