This gastronomic retreat in a tranquil setting on Lummi Island is a 10-minute ferry ride from the mainland north of Seattle. Accommodations are both on-site and scattered around the island as far as a mile and a half from the main lounge and restaurant. Nine of the off-site lodgings, such as The Beach House and Matia, are in stylish, privately owned island homes rented by the inn. In-room amenities vary, but most offer fine views and kitchens. Although service is limited, breakfast at a casual café near the ferry dock is included. Of the eight on-site options, Haven, which comes with a private deck and sitting area, is especially recommended. The property’s principal amenity is a restaurant featuring acclaimed chef Blaine Wetzel’s noma-inspired tasting menu. There is also a hot tub, a bocce court and bikes for rent.

The impressively creative and satisfying cuisine; the tranquil island setting.
The limited service; the unpleasant-tasting well water.
For a more scenic route to the inn, exit the freeway after Burlington and follow Chuckanut Drive along the coast.
