We ate most meals in Palm Springs during our recent visit, but Palm Desert to the south has its own collection of tempting restaurants, as well as an upscale shopping street called El Paseo, lined with top designer names. To get to know the Palm Desert dining scene, we booked two $48 tickets for the three-hour Desert Tasty Tour, a small-group culinary walk. Owner Kristy Kneiding led our weekday tour, which we shared with just one other couple. As she led us from restaurant to restaurant, the vivacious Kneiding related stories about the local dining scene and offered helpful recommendations. We noshed on squash-filled ravioli in sage-butter sauce, zesty sea bass ceviche, an addictive seasonal flatbread pizza, decadent opéra torte and date bars made with locally grown fruit. It was a delightful progressive lunch, and we left the tour feeling like we’d made new friends. Tel. (800) 979-3370.
