Laura Triebe has been in the travel business for 30 years. She started at TWA, went into corporate travel and has now been in leisure travel since 1997. She loves helping clients design their amazing itineraries: “I believe a great trip is in the details and there is nothing more rewarding when I talk with my client after a trip and they tell me what a great time they had. I live for those moments.” Laura enjoys exploring new places herself, whether it’s while traveling or in her own hometown. “I always want to know what is down the next street or behind the closed door. When I have the time I take my camera, I love historical architecture and creepy old cemeteries. They make some of the best pictures.”
Three words that describe you:
Happy, curious and loyal.
Leisure-time pursuits:
I enjoy crafting projects and being creative, going to estate sales and spending time with family.
Area of the world you specialize in/know like the back of your hand:
I’m on the “Rest of the World” team, but I am especially comfortable with Africa, Thailand and Angkor Wat, in Cambodia.
Most unexpected thing you’ve ever discovered on a trip:
That elephant droppings don’t have any smell if the animal is healthy. I have had the privilege of interacting with elephants in Thailand and Africa and a big part of the experience is learning how the mahouts care for the animals. Being close to animals really makes my heart sing.
Country you’d most like to visit:
Egypt. I love historical architecture and the idea of ancient civilizations.
Which Andrew Harper hotel do you most want to stay in:
Otahuna Lodge in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Most out-of-the-way place you’ve ever found yourself in:
The country of Myanmar, just across the border from Thailand. I spent the day visiting local temples and the market. It was very authentic, with no tourists.
Dream travel buddy:
Jimmy Fallon. I love to laugh and can see myself traveling with him and having little motor scooter races!
What makes you a smart traveler:
My best memories aren’t just the things I’ve seen but the people I’ve met. Be open to making new friends and learning about new cultures.
Natural wonder you can’t wait to see:
The Great Barrier Reef, and it’s going to be checked off my wish list in October.
Most breathtaking scenery you've ever witnessed:
I’ve been blessed and seen some beautiful things, but I love Germany, where my family is from. So to me, it’s the green German countryside and the half-timbered houses there.
You wish you would have traveled here sooner:
Buenos Aires. I absolutely loved it. It was a mix of Latin culture but a lot of European influence. It was a really neat city.
