Owned by the Coppola family, this retreat in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve overlooks a segment of Privassion Creek where the river cascades into a series of mirrorlike pools. Steep paths meander to 20 guest accommodations, including villas that offer open-air living rooms, ceiling fans, two baths and two master bedrooms separated by scenic verandas with indoor-outdoor showers. The two Luxury Cabañas and the Enchanted Cottage are especially desirable. Note: All lodgings and public areas at the resort lack air-conditioning. The property offers two dining options, including the poolside Guatemaltecqua Restaurant for Mexican, Caribbean and Mayan specialties, a creekside spa specializing in Thai massages, a hot tub, a freshwater infinity pool flanked by mahogany sun loungers and horse stables. The hotel can arrange for equestrian rides, canoe excursions, guided hiking tours and 4WD expeditions to famed Mayan sites.
