This charming hotel within an 18th-century hilltop castle of golden stone is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Set in stone buildings along a paved “street,” 14 rooms and suites, decorated by the Italian designer Federico Forquet, feature a lovely Tuscan country house style with dark wood furniture and terra-cotta tile floors. Individually decorated Junior Suites, some duplex, provide separate living rooms with armoires and sofa beds, and cozy bedrooms with tall bookcases. Superb cuisine is served in a main dining room or alfresco, weather permitting. The atmospheric La Taverna is ideal for lunch. The pool offers a sweeping view of the countryside. There is also a tranquil reading room, a small gym, a massage tent and a cooking school. Castello Banfi winery tours can be arranged. The hotel is closed from mid-November to the end of March.

The glorious views of the Tuscan countryside; the superb cookery school.
Very little, other than the lighting controls in our room, which were confusing.
This property offers generous hospitality and elegant rusticity rather than the pinnacle of luxury.
