Romantic 17th-century castle rising from a limestone bluff above the Dordogne River, surrounded by almost 300 acres of formal gardens and forests. Regal public spaces, including the candlelit Louis XIII salon, with deeply coffered ceilings and an Aubusson tapestry, are home to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Also elegant Fragonard salon and wood-paneled library, both with fireplaces, as well as a broad river-view terrace for alfresco dining and drinks. Few of the 17 accommodations have unappealing views, but vistas of the river valley are most memorable. Rooms have lavish period décor as well as modern conveniences, such as master light switches and air-conditioning. Opt for a palatial Junior or Master suite. Tennis court, large outdoor swimming pool and hiking trails available. Formal but very friendly service.

The dramatic blufftop setting; the excellent cuisine served in palatial surroundings; the gardens and hiking trails; our regal Junior Suite with magnificent river views.
The outdoor pool is a rather long walk from the château; the “house apéritif” and local prune brandy were shamefully overpriced, which we discovered only too late.
The Michelin-starred Pont de l’Ouysse is a five-minute drive away.
