This remote eco-resort with 16 suites and villas is set on a hilly site within a private 500-acre cloud forest reserve that connects Poás Volcano and Juan Castro Blanco national parks. Wood-floored suites have canopied ceilings, built-in daybeds and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, as well as heated whirlpools on private decks furnished with rocking chairs. The main building alongside a rushing stream contains a movie room, a bar-lounge and a stylish restaurant that features many locally grown ingredients. The hotel lacks a pool but has a commendable spa and yoga deck across the river. A wide range of activities is offered, including whitewater rafting, horseback riding, ziplining, birding, coffee plantation tours and cooking classes. Children under the age of 8 are permitted only in Master Suites and Private Villas.
