This striking resort in a 1,600-acre jungle and beach development featuring a maze of canals, lagoons and pools is 30 minutes south of Cancún. Electric-powered launches and golf carts ferry guests to the 129 modernist suites of golden limestone with private plunge pools and rooftop sundecks. Note that just 16 accommodations overlook the white-sand beach (where swimming is restricted because of a rocky seabed). Three dining options include Casa del Lago for Mexican-influenced Italian cuisine and a sushi restaurant. Principal amenities are a Greg Norman-designed golf course and a lavish island spa beside a natural spring-fed pool, with steam rooms, saunas and a gym. Additionally, diving, deep-sea fishing, horseback riding and excursions to Mayan ruins are available.
